1. What age did you start gymnastics?: 2 yrs old/5 yrs old competitively
2. How did you start in gymnastics?: Mommy and me classes
3. How did you deal with mental blocks?: at my first gym, I wanted to quit, and I would make up injuries to get out of doing activities that I had a mental block on, and then when I switched gyms to Metroplex Gymnastics, I was taught that it was OK to have mental blocks and to take a step back and focus on the technical side of the skill til I felt safe enough to move forward
4. Who was your role model/someone you looked uo to in the sport?: No one actually because I knew I would compare myself to them
5. What was your hardest struggle during your time as a gymnast?: Mental blocks and fomo once I started public school my sophomore year in high school
6. How do you handle nerves when you are competing?: Creating an alter ego “kyanpepper” she's that's girl and has it girl mentality
7. What was your biggest accomplishment in gymnastics?: Getting “the George” named after me
8. What did you do after you were done competing? did you stay involved or did you do something t...: currently a coaches assistant at TWU
9. What would people need to know if you are starting the sport for the first time? : take your time there’s no rush and that gymnastics has so many skills that you can make each event your own
10. What is your favorite meet? : Second day of regionals, 2021 W/ Cal
11. How did you handle pressure form peers/coaches/fans?: remembering my why
12. How do you overcome setbacks and challenges?: just remembering that it’s OK and going back to the basics
13. Did college gymnastics ever cross your mind as something you wanted to do? : Always wanted to do it
14. Least favorite event and favorite event? And Why?: My least favorite event was beam just because I had the most fears and that event and my favorite event was floor because I got to show my personality
15. Hardest and easiest gymnastics skill to train? my hardest skill to train was a Tekachevs on bars, and my easiest skill to train was my wolf turns on beam or front handsprings double fulls on floor |
16. How did/do you deal with getting in your head on skills?: focusing on my keywords |
17. How did you stay out of your head at practice and at meet?: making a bet or playing a game with my teammates… I do my best in a competitive environment
18. Have any of you got a skill for a few weeks on any event and then a week or to later you jus...: I think that depends on the athlete when that happened to me, my coach would just make me switch skills due to my mental block history
19. How did you cope when your time as a gymnast was over? Did you go into coaching or did you f...: I got into coaching, but it was not my first choice. I was injured my last year in college and my collegiate coaches said that I was very analytical and detail oriented in that coaching would be some thing I would be really good at and my club coach then asked me if I would be interested in being the volunteer coach at Alabama for the 2023 season
20. Advice you would give to current or people who want to start in the sport? : Always remember your why and purpose for why you started the sport and why you enjoy the sport and to always be open for that to change the older you get!
