In the summer of 2018 and 2021, I went down to their gymnastics camp with my team, stayed in the dorms, and used the gym on campus. On the first night we arrived, we checked in and went to the gymnastics gym for evaluation to be put in the right groups for the week. The next day, We would practice for 3 hours in the morning and then get lunch as a camp. After lunch, we all would have some free time and then would be back in the gym for afternoon practice for another 2 hours before dinner. I really liked the gymnastics camp at UWW!
This year, in March of 2023, I went to see a gymnastics meet with one of my friends since I have never saw the Warhawks in action and wanted to see one. We drove up on a Saturday to watch the meet. It was in Williams Center, the gym on the campus. The UW- Whitewater team started on vault and went in Olympic order, which is a rotation of vault, bars, beam, and floor. This rotation is used for home meets, and since UWW was home, that's the rotation they went in.
The first event that the Warhawks started on was Vault and all of them hit their vaults without a fall. The energy and loudness in the gym was amazing. The highest score that the Warhawks put was Ava Peach and she scorced 9.6. The rest of the line up included Carleigh, Danielle, Chloe, Elena, and Gracie all scoring in the 9.6's and 9.5's.
The team next headed to bars and also hit their bars. I did not see one fall throughout the rotation which means that the teams does a lot of repetitions in practice before meets so they can hit in pressure situation something I wish I did in club gymnastics. Bars is my favorite to train and to watch so it was so nice to see the release moves which is a either from low to high bar or high to low bar for example it could be a bail, pak, and straddle back or another release move. The highest score on this event was Kelsey with a score of around a 9.6. The other scores in the lineup including 9.7's, 9.5's, and 9.6's and the line up included Elaine, Estee, Paige, Carley, Gracie, and Ashlyn.
After that, the team headed to beam. They hit their routines with no falls and seemed to have done a lot of routines during practice since it looked really solid and pretty. I got some good beam tips from watching there beam routines. The line up included Ashnaya, Chloe, Sarah, Gracie, Teagan and scores included 9.8,9.7,9.4, and 9.3.
Finally, the rotation the Warhawks headed to floor. Again, the team hit their routines. The music that was picked sounded great with the crowd and theme of their routines. The team stood around the floor and cheered everyone on while the teammates did their dance moves on the side. I loved seeing this! The floor included Kelsey, Teagan, Danielle, Elaine, and Carley the scores including 9.6, 9.4. and 9.3.
In Conclusion, it was lovely to see the team supporting each other since, in club gymnastics, you are not allowed to do the dance moves on the floor alongside your teammates since it would be a deduction. The environment seems so lovely and enjoyable. If a spot opened, I would the UWW gymnastics team in a heartbeat. After the meet, we went out for dinner and then drove home. It was a fun night at UWW. Can't wait to be at so many next year!
